Explanation:

21 + 3X = ("Difference means subtract.) 2X

Twenty-one more than three times a number is equal to the difference between 46 and twice the number

Then write the proper equation: 21+3x= 46-2x.

Next get rid of the smaller "x" so 3x+2x=46-25

solve X

5x=25

x=5
