let, the width be x, so the length becomes 2x

now the perimeter is 42, and we know the formula to find the perimeter is 2(length+width)

so, 2(2x+x)=42

or, 2×3x=42

or, 6x=42

or, x=7

so the width is 7 and the length is, 2×7 = 14
