In a group of 34 pupils, 15 play the flute only. 2 play the piano only. 12 play neither instrument. A student is selected at random. What is the probability the student plays both instruments?

Number of pupil that play the flute only=15

Number of pupil that play the piano only=2

Number of pupil that play neither instrument= 12

number of pupil that play both instrument= ( total number of the pupil) - ( number of pupils that play flute + Piano + pupil that play neither of the instruments)

= 34- ( 15 + 2 + 12)

=34 - 29 = 5

P(probability the student plays both instruments)= number of pupil that play both instrument / total number of students

= 5/34
