Paula walked ¾ mile in 10 minutes. Hannah walked ⅘ mile in 15 minutes. What was the difference in their speeds, in miles per hour?

Explanation:

3/4 mile x 6 = 4 1/2

(we multiply by 6 because to get 60 minutes/1 hour you need to multiply 10 minutes by 6)

60/15=4

(we will multiply by 4 because we need that to get 1 hour)

4/5 x 4 = 3 1/5

4 1/2 - 3 1/5 = 4 5/10 - 3 2/10 (we do that so we can subtract easier)

4 5/10 - 3 2/10 = 1 3/10
