Answer:

x=1, y=4

Explanation:

x+y=5 - (1)

y=3x + 1 (2)

Sub (2) into (1)

x + (3x +1)=5

4x=5-1

x=4 ÷4

=1

Sub x=1 into (2)

y=3(1)+1

= 4
