The correct answer here would be C. DNA replication is usually semiconservative: Each of the original strand serves as a template for a complementary daughter strand. The processes that occur in DNA replication couldn’t even get started if the strands are never separated.

The other answer choices are true in themselves, and none of them would independently be a cause for error in DNA replication.
