Step-by-step explanation:

Just because you owe money does not mean that a collection company can harass you. Debtors have rights too. Collection agencies cannot for instance, call debtors at any time of the day because they can only call between 8am and 9pm. Any time other than that needs to be with the debtor's consent.

The debtor cannot call acquaintances to tell them of the debt as they can only discuss it with the debtor, their spouse and their lawyer and if the debtor requests in writing that they wish to have no further contact, they cannot be contacted.

If the debtor's employer however allows collection agencies to visit a debtor at work, the collection agency can do so.
