“Each time that I wake up and see you near my bedside I feel revived. You control my emotions. Your eyes make my mind run slowly to the sun, and your lips speak of love and truthfulness, it’s all that I ever expected it to be” spoke Leonard. Leonard was the most gentle and generous soul a woman could meet and he was in love with Yvonne. Though he was quite older than Yvonne, a 20 year difference. Yvonne didn’t mind, she loved him with all of her heart, mind and soul.
Both were in bed, caressing each other tenderly when suddenly both heard a tremendous noise, as if a gun was shot in the air. “Get down!” barked Leonard to his wife. Then, another gunshot was heard, this time inside the house. The servants of the household yelled and everyone ran upstairs. The house butler specifically went to Leonard’s room. His chest was wounded, he bleed. It was obvious he had been shot, in his last breath he said: “Master Leonard, Manny Vinchenzo looks for you” the butler gave a deep gulp, lost his breath and collapsed to the ground. He was dead.
Yvonne cried, she didn’t know what to do. Leonard ordered Yvonne not to cry and to wear clothes. Leonard went downstairs, along with one of the coward servants and faced Manny. “What is it that you want Manny” said Leonard with an authoritarian voice. “I want a duel Mr. Leonard… a duel is what I please, you know why? Because you ran away like a coward when you swore that you would duel me for the hand of Yvonne!”, Leonard replied: “It’s not my fault her parents choose me over you”. Manny stood silent then he took out his gun from his pocket and put it on his head, then he pointed the gun towards Leonard and made a “Oooooshh” sound with his lips. “I want a duel Mr. Leonard, you win then I die. If I win then I leave your bride alone but you die”. Leonard nodded and accepted the challenge.
When the day of the duel began Yvonne cried like never before. When the men began to walk the 10 steps she was tense. Once the 10 steps were over both turned around and Manny took the first shot, but instead of shooting Leonard he shot Yvonne and immediately she died. At that very instance, Leonard woke up and saw his wife next to him and he said in relief: “What a dream”.
