Romeo died from love because Juliet drank "poison" given to her by a priest (the drink was actually a sleeping drink in order to make it seem like she's dead.) So he thought she was dead and decided to drink actual poison to join her, however when she woke up she realized what was going on and drank the poison Romeo drank to join him.

Mercutio's attitude toward love is cynical. We know this because he puts down the idea of romantic love in conversations with Romeo in act 1, scene 4 and act 2, scene 4. He advises Romeo to be "rough" with love.
