The purpose of the Federalist papers was to encourage and urge others currently in opposition to support the ratification of the new Constitution of 1787, one that would replace the Articles of Confederation. 2. The writers of the Federalist papers were eventually successful because New Hampshire ratified the new Constitution and soon after so did New York and Virginia.
