Step-by-step explanation

The way you sub-divided the figure is correct. The rectangle up top is 7 inches tall and 25 inches across. The area is 7*25 = 175 square inches.

The larger portion at the bottom is 23 inches tall and 50 inches across, giving an area of 23*50 = 1150 square inches.
