Answer:

U (1, 16 )

Explanation:

given endpoints (x₁, y₁ ) and (x₂, y₂ ), then the midpoint M is

M = (
(x_(1)+x_(2) )/(2) ,
(y_(1)+y_(2) )/(2) ) ← midpoint formula

let (x₁, x₂ ) = U (x, y ) and (x₂, y₂ ) = V (13, 8 )

substitute these values into the midpoint formula and equate to the corresponding coordinates of M (7, 12 )

(x+13)/(2) = 7 ( multiply both sides by 2 )

x + 13 = 2 × 7 = 14 ( subtract 13 from both sides )

x = 1

and

(y+8)/(2) = 12 ( multiply both sides by 2 )

y + 8 = 2 × 12 = 24 ( subtract 8 from both sides )

y = 16

coordinates of U = (1, 16 )
