\large\bf{\underline{\underline{\mathfrak{Given}:}}}

\large\bf{\underline{\underline{\mathfrak{To\:find}:}}}

How long will it take for the two trains to be 504 miles apart?

\large\bf{\underline{\underline{\mathfrak{Soluton}:}}}

As we have given that,

:{\Longrightarrow{\small{\rm{Westbound\:train\:travels=100\:miles/hr}}}}

:{\Longrightarrow{\small{\rm{Eastbound\:train\:travels=80\:miles/hr}}}}

The their combined speed would be:

:{\Longrightarrow{\small{\rm{100+80\:miles/hr}}}}

That is,

:{\Longrightarrow{\small{\rm{180\:miles/hr}}}}

Now,

The given distance is 504

We know that,

{\boxed{\small{\rm{Time=(Distance)/(Speed)}}}}

By putting the values in the formula we get,

:{\implies{\small{\rm{Time=(504)/(180)}}}}

:{\implies{\small{\rm{Time=2.8\:hours}}}}
