Owen spends $344 to buy exactly enough side rails and rungs to build 16 ladders. Each ladder has 2 side rails and 10 identical rungs. Side rails cost $4 apiece. Let r represent the cost of each rung. Which equation can you use to find r?

Answer:

See below

Explanation:

16(the cost of 2 side rails) + 16(the cost of 10 rungs) = 344

16(8) + 16(10r) = 344

128 + 160r = 344 Subtract 128 from both sides

160r = 216 Divide both sides by 160

r = 1.35

Each rung cost 1.35.
