How do I improve my essay? It may be no more than 8 sentences.

The Mexican-American War, a consequential chapter in American history, emerged in 1846 from tensions between the United States and Mexico over border disputes and the annexation of Texas. Mexico argued for the Nueces River as the border, while the U.S. claimed it was the Rio Grande River. Against the backdrop of manifest destiny, this conflict unfolded, ultimately leading the shaping of the geopolitical landscape of North America.
However, it's important to mention that it wasn’t only America and Mexico that had disagreements, and Americans also had internal conflicts. Certain Americans valued the war as beneficial to Westward Expansion and slavery continuation, while others, especially those in the anti-war movement, condemned the war as aggressive and unnecessary, and questioned its motives.
The two nations battled for two years, most of which were won by the United States, and the two sides of America clashed over territory and ideals. Eventually, in 1848, America came out victorious after the conquering of Mexico City, and the border was set at the Rio Grande River. A peace treaty was signed that granted significant territorial gains for the United States including most of the Southwest coast as well as California.
