B. Estimate how much it would cost in total if you only watched 34 games out of the season.

Part A

x = number of games watched

5x = cost of watching those games, ignoring the $35

5x+35 = total cost when including the $35 fee.

Answer: y = 5x+35

Part B

Since your teacher wants an estimate, we can round 34 to 30 to make the numbers a bit nicer.

Then 5*30 = 150 which can be done with mental math. Furthermore, mental math would conclude that 150+35 = 185.

We estimate that it costs $185 to watch 35 games. This is an underestimate because we rounded 34 down to 30. To calculate an overestimate, use x = 40 in the equation we found back in part A.

Answer: $185 (underestimate)
