Answer:

4(7)/(10) lbs

Explanation:

First of all find out how much Sanika bought:

Sanika bought 1/2lb less than Anna (2 3/5lbs)

so we first convert 1/2 to fifths which is: 2.5/5

Now we subtract that half from Anna's amount to find out how much Sanika has

2 (3)/(5) -(2.5)/(5) =2(.5)/(5)

Sanika has
2(.5)/(5) lbs of grapes

Now we add them up to find how many pounds of grapes did they buy in all

Anna's + Sanika's =

2(3)/(5)+2(.5)/(5)= ?

add the whole numbers:

2 + 2 = 4

add the fractions:

(3)/(5)+(.5)/(5)=(3.5)/(5)

and now we add both of those values from above ^^

and we get:

4(3.5)/(5)

or in tenths (to not have a decimal as a numerator:

4(7)/(10)

so 2 3/5 - 1/2 = 2 6/10 - 5/10 = 2 1/10. 2 1/10 + 2 3/5 = 2 1/10 + 2 6/10 = 4 7/10. Answer = 4 7/10
