A box slides down a frictionless ramp that has a height of 12 meters. The box has a mass of 3 kg. What is the velocity of the box at the end of the incline? _____________ m/s

Answer:

Since the ramp is frictionless only the height must be considered

1/2 m v^2 = m g h where h is the height of the ramp

v = (2 g h)^1/2 = (2 * 9.8 * 12)^1/2 = 15.3 m/s

Check:

12 = 1/2 g t^2 for a freely falling object

t = 1.56 sec falling time

V = g t = 9.80 m/s * 1.56 sec = 15.3 m.s
