Summarizing
In the first two chapters of The First Men in the Moon, the reader is introduced to Mr. Bedford, a businessman who decides to try his hand at writing a play, and Mr. Cavor, a scientist, intent on developing a material that will block the effects of gravity. When the two meet, it doesn't take long for them to agree on a partnership to attempt the first flight to the moon. After making a discovery that ends in near disaster, Mr. Cavor is finally ready to build his invention. The two set out to build a sphere made of Cavorite that will take them to the moon.
