Hi, for 17 just put why you think your answer is correct :) ( basically explain how you got number 16) and for 15 just ask questions about the question, and just put what did to find your answer for 16! (Because that would have been your strategy!

Answer:

Explanation:

Hannah's rate = $5/hour

Her brother's rate = $4/hour

let x = hannah's working time

y = her brother's working time

We can make 2 equations

x + y = 9, because they worked a total of 9 hours (equation1)

5x + 4y = 38, they earned a total of $38 but we do not know the time they worked for it (equation2)

multiply equation1 by -5

-5(x + y = 9)

-5x -5y = -45 (equation3)

add equations 2 and 3

5x + 4y = 38

-5x -5y = -45

--------------------

-y = -7

y = 7, it means her brother worked for 7 hours and earned $28

substitute y = 7 to any of the equations. I use equation1

x + y = 9

x + 7 = 9

x = 2, it means hannah worked for 2 hours and earned $10
