Southwest Asia
Southwest Asia is home to numerous indigenous religious traditions that have largely resisted Christian and Islamic conversions. Shamanism is one of these indigenous religious traditions that are still practiced by many in this region.
Specifically, the term “shamanism” refers to a spiritual practice that is centered on the shaman, a religious leader who communicates with spirits and the supernatural world on behalf of their community. Despite the presence of Christian and Islamic missionaries in this region, shamanism remains an important component of many peoples’ worldviews and spiritual practices.
