Explanation:

The key to these kinds of problems is this:

When dividing by a fraction, flip the 2nd fraction and multiply.

Then it's easy:

7/12 ÷ 2/9 is the same as: 7/12 x 9/2

See how the 2nd fraction is flipped?

Then you're just multiplying fractions: multiply the tops, and multiply the bottoms:

  • 7 x 9
  • 12 x 2

(I had to make it an indented list to make it look right, so ignore the dots.)

Could write it like this also: (7 x 9)/(12 x 2) = 63/24

Factor out a 3 from top and bottom to get: 21/8

Simplify to: 2 5/8.
