Two is subtracted from a number, and then the difference is divided by 3. The result is 30. What is the equation?

Answer:

(x-2)/3 = 30

Explanation:

Call the number x, and then just write out what the words say:

x - 2

Then:

(x-2)/3

Then:

(x-2)/3 = 30

That's the equation they asked, but if you want to go ahead and solve for x, first multiply both sides by 3:

(x - 2) = 90

Then add 2 to both sides:

x = 92

Check it against the words and you'll see that it works.
