So what you have to do is remove the -24 from the left side of the equation, to keep the y alone. To do that, add 24 to both sides of the equation.

-4y -24 +24 = 3x + 24

-4y = 3x + 24

Now, we need to get rid of the -4 from the y, so the y is alone. To do that, divide both sides by -4.

-4y ÷ -4 = (3x÷-4) + (24÷-4)


y = (-3)/(4)x - 6
