let the 2 numbers be n and n + 1

sum the 2 numbers and equate to 29

n + n + 1 = 29 ( simplify left side )

2n + 1 = 29 ( subtract 1 from both sides )

2n + 1 - 1 = 29 - 1 ( simplify both sides )

2n = 28 ( divide both sides by 2 )


(2)/(2) n =
(28)/(2) , that is

n = 14

and n + 1 = 14 + 1 = 15

the two consecutive numbers are 14 and 15
