Do you remember that perimeter just means to add up the length of all four sides? So going around a rectangle with those dimensions you might write down:

36 + 24 + 36 + 24

Do you see why I say that? Because there's 2 lengths and 2 widths. So let's group them like that:

(36 + 36) + (24 + 24)

Whis is the same as:

2x36 + 2x24

More generally, it's: Perimeter = 2L + 2W. Remember this one.

Plugging in the numbers:

P = 2(36cm) + 2(24cm)

P = 72cm + 48cm = 120cm
