True.

As is the case for the vast majority of stars, the sun is comprised mostly of hydrogen. It however, has a much lower concentration of hydrogen, seeing as it is only 73% Hydrogen, whereas most stars are close to 90% hydrogen.

The sun is indeed the closest star to the earth, the next closest star being Proxima Centauri, which is 4.236 light-years away.
