A cockroach fell into a container containing cooking oil and caused the cockroach to die. Explain why.​

When the cockroach falls into the cooking oil container, the spiracles are closed off with enough oil to stop gas exchange (air & carbon dioxide) through them, which makes the cockroach deprived of oxygen and eventually die.

If the spiracles are coated with enough oil to stop gas exchange (air & carbon dioxide) through them then the cockroach will be deprived of oxygen and eventually die.
