"Addition property": if you add 6 to both sides, then the -6 term on the right becomes zero. This is the first step to getting x by itself. The left term becomes 18 + 6 = 24

"DIvision property": If you divide 4x by 4 then it becomes 1x, which is just x, and now x is by itself. But you have to divide the other side by 4 also, so it makes that a 6. x = 6
