a rectangular window has a length that is 18 inches more than its width. if its perimeter is 180 inches, find its dimensions.

We know the formula for perimeter is P = 2*l + 2*w

for l is the length, w is the width of the rectangle

P = 180 in.

and l = 18 + w

so...

P = 180 = 2*(18 + w) + 2w

solve for w

180 = 36 + 2w + 2w

180 - 36 = 4w

144 = 4w

w = 144/4

w = 36 inches

therefore l = 18 + 36 = 54 inches

Dimensions are 54 inches by 36 inches
