Explanation:

These are simple, just think them through.

See how the price of carpet is quoted at so-many dollars per square meter or yard? So you just need to find the areas of the rooms and then multiply by the $ per square meter/yard. Make sense?

First one: do you know how to find the area of a rectangle? It's just the length times the width, right? This room is 7.5m by 5.5m, so:

7.5m x 5.5m = 41.25m²

And since the carpet for that room costs $14.73/m², you just multiply that by 41.25m² to get the total cost. Notice how m² cancel out and you're left with just $:

41.25m² x $14.73/m² = $607.61

The second one is the same, just different units:

(14yd x 12yd) x $29/yd² = $4,872

(Notice how big that 2nd room is: 52' x 36'. That's pretty huge, so that's why the carpet for it costs so much.
