Would rocks containing both olivine and quartz be common in the Earth's crust? Why or why not?

Answer: Olivine does not occur naturally with the mineral quartz. Quartz can only form from magmas that are relatively rich in silica, while the olivine minerals can only form from magmas that are relatively poor in silica, so quartz and olivine are incompatible minerals.
