How did southerners attempt to justify slavery in the early nineteenth century? What are some arguments used to justify social and economic injustices today?

Answer:

The southerners would try to convince the abolitionists that slavery helped hold the economy in the South and that if it was abolished it would lead to an economic collapse. Another reason is that in the Bible many of the characters had slaves so the southerners would use this as well. Some people try to argue that the economy would be better as there would not have been the collapse that followed the civil war.
