To explain it easier, if the absolute number is a negative (in this case it is |-11| and |-4|) all you have to do is take off the brackets and the negative sign. -11 is 11 spaces away from 0, so the absolute value of |-11| is 11. Same thing with |-4|. Now we calculate this: 13 + 11 - 4 = 20. So, the answer is 20.

13 + |-11| - |-4| = 20

(Just remember: |-11| = 11. |-4| = 4.)
