Answer & Explanation:

Mr. Brunner and Grover are talking, and Percy hears them contemplating Percy's future. Percy Jackson is having a lot of trouble in chapter 2 with his grades and approaching finals. He heard Grover and Mr. Brunner discussing their worries. Grover believed he had failed in his responsibility to keep Percy safe. When Percy overhears Grover and Mr. Brunner discussing him, he assumes that they are concerned about his safety. According to Mr. Brunner, their main concern should be keeping Percy alive until the next fall. In addition to having ADHD and dyslexia, Percy is less wealthy than the other children. Grover claims to be in charge of keeping an eye on and protecting Percy. Percy is taken aback since he believed he had been protecting Grover.

During a portion of the academic year, Mrs. Dodd's, a Fury, poses as a math teacher at Yancy Academy. Every moment she has, she torments Percy by giving him detention and failing his exams. Because naming a monster might summon it, people at Camp Half-Blood frequently refer to them as The Kindly Ones to avoid attracting them.

In their conversation they discuss "Kindly Ones" (The Furies), deadlines, and Grover's failures

The old lady's they see when the bus breaks down is one of the "Kindly Ones"

The conversation was probably important because it gives Percy the peace of mind in realizing he is not going crazy, and also gives insight on why later events come into play. But I have not read the whole story so, I hope this information helps.
