A school reserved a banquet hall for the spring dance. In addition to a $100 deposit, each couple must pay $20. If the total cost of the banquet hall is $1, 140, write and solve an equation to find the number of couples attending the spring dance.

Please help me!! I have been stuck on this question for too long.

52 Couples, (I’m new I don’t know if I’m doing this right) if we are talking about the total price then we have to subtract 100 because The $100 wasn’t a part of how much the couples had to pay. And then you’ll get 1040 and then you have to divide 1040 by 20 and then 52 will be left.(please don’t blame me if this is wrong lol just trying to help if I can)
