An object is thrown downward with an initial velocity of 6 feet per second. The relationship between the distance s it travels and time t is given by s=6t+16t^(2). How long does it take the object to fall 76 feet? It takes seconds for the object to fall 76 feet.

Answer: 2 seconds

Explanation: The general formula is
x = V*t - (a*t^(2) )/(2) , so if you're on earth the relationship between the distance s it travels and time t should be s=6t + 5t^2 not 16. But I will assume it takes place on a different planet.

16t^(2) + 6t - 76 = 0\\

t_(12) = \frac{-6+-\sqrt{6^(2) + 4*16*76} }{32}

The two solutions will be: x1 = -2.375 s and x2 = 2 s;

Time can't be negative so the answer will be 2 s.
