The length of the diagonal of a rectangle is 50 cm. if the length of one side of the rectangle is 30 cm, calculate:

a. the length of the other side
b. the area of the rectangle

AC = diagonal = 50cm

AD = one side = 30cm

we look for the measure of DC (which is = to AB)

a) right triangle ADC

Pythagore's theorem

CD²=AC²-AD²

CD²=50²-30²

CD = √1600 = 40cm

the other side = 40cm

b) A =L*l

A = 40*30 = 1200cm²
