Answer as a mixed number = 8 & 2/3

Answer as an improper fraction = 26/3

===================================================

Step-by-step explanation

To make multiplication easier, we first should convert the mixed numbers to improper fractions.

Use this formula:

a & b/c = (a*c + b)/c

So,

a & b/c = (a*c + b)/c

2 & 2/3 = (2*3 + 2)/3

2 & 2/3 = 8/3

Use that same formula to also find that 3 & 1/4 = 13/4. Let me know if you need to see the steps for this part.

-----------

The original problem (2 & 2/3) * (3 & 1/4) is equivalent to (8/3)*(13/4)

Multiply the numerators: 8*13 = 104

Multiply the denominators: 3*4 = 12

Therefore, (7/3)*(13/4) = 104/12 = (26*4)/(3*4) = 26/3

------------

The last step would be to convert from an improper fraction to a mixed number.

26/3 = (24 + 2)/3

26/3 = (24/3) + (2/3)

26/3 = 8 + (2/3)

26/3 = 8 & 2/3

The mixed number result has the whole part 8, and fractional part 2/3.

Another way is to use long division to find that 26/3 = 8 remainder 2. The "remainder 2" forms the numerator of the fractional part 2/3.

If you had 26 cookies and shared them with 3 friends, then each friend gets 8 whole cookies. Each friend also gets 2/3 of an extra cookie.

-------------

In summary

(2 & 2/3) * (3 & 1/4) = 26/3 = 8 & 2/3
