x = first number

2x -3 second number summed they equal 39

x + 2x-3 = 39 <======given

3x - 3 = 39

3x = 42

x = 14 the other is 2x-3 = 25

Explanation:

let the two numbers be x and y respectively.

According to question,

x = 2y - 3

2y - x = 3 ---- eq(1)

y + x = 39 ---- eq(2)

through, Elimination Method

eq(1) + eq(2)

value of y = 14

putting value of y in eq(2)

14 + x = 39

x = 39 - 14

x = 25

value of x = 25

therefore, both the numbers are 25 and 14 respectively.
