The neutrophil is the most abundant innate immune cell in the body. Its
main function consists of patrolling the bloodstream and engulfing and
breaking down foreign particles it encounters in a process known as
phagocytosis. It does this by having the cell membrane form a vacuole
around the foreign particle and then ingesting it into the cell to be
