You first find the gradient

gradient= change in x/change in y

change in x = 5-1 = 4

change in y = 6-4 = 2

Gradient = 4/2

Gradient = 2

You now use the graident to find the equation

2=change in x/change in y

you now use one of the coordinates given above and a new one which we will name (x,y)

change \: in \: x = x - 1

change \: in \: y = y - 4

2 = (x - 1)/(y - 4)

we cross multiply

2(y - 4) = x - 1

2y - 8 = x - 1

we bring 8 to the other side while changing its sign to positive

2y = x - 1 + 8

2y = x + 7

we divide all by 2

(2y)/(2) = (x)/(2) + (7)/(2)

y = (x)/(2) + (7)/(2)
