Write a hypothesis describing what you believe may be causing the heavy growth of algae in the pond. Base your hypothesis on your observations of the two ponds.

Hypothesis: The heavy growth of algae in the pond is likely caused by an excess of nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, which are present in higher concentrations compared to the other pond. This higher nutrient availability, combined with sunlight and warm temperature, creates favorable conditions for algae to thrive and overpopulate the pond. Additionally, the limited water circulation and lack of natural predators in the pond may also contribute to the excessive algae growth.

Hypothesis

  • Toxic substances when get released in the water bodies, cause the rapid rise of the algal bloom, resulting in the decease of the creatures living in them.

What's a hypothesis?

  • A hypothesis can be termed as an assumption or an explanation of an event based on the existing information.
  • In the above example,we drew a hypothesis based on the condition of the pond with or without the intoxication of substances released from the industries.
  • Picture 1 shows a pond with a huge deal of fishes in it and no algae around whereas in Picture 2, there's a huge damp of algae, grown from the toxic substances released in the air then submerged into the water, causing suffocation among the fishes , leading to their demise.
  • We can also conclude a hypothesis from point 3 which can be stated as ,' Heavy growth of algae in the water bodies is inversely proportional to a healthy marine life lead by the organisms residing in them.'
