Explanation:

Overlapping shapes are shapes that are combined together to create a new shape.

For example, if 2 rectangles overlap, the overlapped region could create another shape, such as a rectangle, triangle, trapezoid or pentagon depending on the direction of the rectangles.

The shape created from overlapped shapes doesn't have to be a common shape. It can also be a completely complex polygon with a lot of vertices. You can try overlapping shapes and see what new shape is in the overlapped region.
