Answer:

15 cm

Explanation:

Imagine that the rectangle looks like the image below. Each corner is labeled a different letter (A, B, C, and D). Corners A and B must be next to each other as that is the order of the rectangle given, same with B and C, and C and D.

*If the rectangle was labeled HIYA, then corners H and I must be next to each other, I and Y, and Y and A must be next to each other. The order that the letters appear in the name of the rectangle is order that they are in the corners of the rectangle.

As A and B are next to each other, they create side AB in the rectangle. As given in the problem, AB=5 cm. As B and C are next to each other, they create side BC in the rectangle, which is 3 cm.

Looking at the drawing below, the height is 3 cm and the base is 5 cm. Keep in mind that AB=DC=5 cm. Both AB and DC can be referred to as the base.

Using the formula A=bh (area=base*height),

A=5*3\\A=15 cm

Determine the area of the rectangle ABCD with ab equals to 5 cm and BC equals to 3 cm-example-1
