Presence of cellulose-digesting bacteria called ruminococcus in the rumen, allow ruminants to digest cellulose and that's why non-ruminants can't simply digest cellulose.

  • Ruminococcus is a type of bacteria which helps in degrading and converting complex polysaccharides into simpler form which further get used by the host.
