Topic: fuels used to run cars
Regular fuel-gasoline
• Bad for environment because it has carbon dioxide emissions

Adds to global warming
• Also, pollution is bad for people's health
Have to rely on other countries for our oil to make gasoline
• There are many alternative fuels
Biodiesel fuel
• Made from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant
grease
It's safe and biodegradable
Can be used in normal diesel engines

• Using biodiesel makes less bad emissions
• Very safe to store and transport
Electricity
• Electricity from batteries
Electric vehicle (EV) batteries must be recharged
• You can only drive about 80 miles
• Good for short-distance, high-use vehicles such as buses
• EVs have no emissions
But the production of electricity does cause emissions
• Takes 8 hours to charge at home
• Some places it can take 2-4 hours
• Used in airline baggage handling, university campus security,
and national parks
Hydrogen fuel cells
Power is made by a chemical reaction between hydrogen and
oxygen

Hide
• Byproducts are water and heat
• Vehicles are not for sale yet
• Very quiet

High-pressure hydrogen tanks can explode Producing the
hydrogen creates emissions
