The 14th amendment reads: "all persons born or naturalized in the united states, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the united states and of the state wherein they reside." has birthright citizenship been good for african americans? has this clause been good for america? please discuss your opinion and provide at least one reason behind your opinion for each of the two questions.

The 14 Amendment was passed after the Civil War and gave African Americans citizenship and voting rights, for a brief time African Americans had representation but after Reconstruction ended, African Americans were disenfranchised by poll taxes and literacy tests, until the 1960s when the civil rights movement fought for rights and got them for African Americans. Now I would say for both questions yes it was sort of good since it gave them rights but it was not effective in stopping racial disenfranchisement.
