Civil discourse is conversation that aims to increase understanding. Learning can be improved by a group of people sharing their various biases. Citizens assemble, exchange ideas, engage in discussion, form opinions, and choose a course of action. Open-mindedness, compromise, and respect for one another are ideals of civic learning that are embodied in civil dialogue. The act of conversing in a civil manner with the goal of promoting understanding is known as civil discourse.
