just a quick addition to "jimthompson5910" superb reply above

f(x)=\cfrac{2}{3}x-5 \\\\[-0.35em] ~\dotfill\\\\ f\left( -(3)/(4) \right)=\cfrac{2}{3}\left( -\cfrac{3}{4} \right) -5 \implies f\left( -(3)/(4) \right)=\cfrac{3}{3}\left( -\cfrac{2}{4} \right) -5 \\\\\\ f\left( -(3)/(4) \right)=1\left( -\cfrac{1}{2} \right) -5 \implies f\left( -(3)/(4) \right)=-\cfrac{1}{2}-5 \\\\\\ f\left( -(3)/(4) \right)=\cfrac{-1-10}{2}\implies f\left( -(3)/(4) \right)=-\cfrac{11}{2}\implies f\left( -(3)/(4) \right)=-5(1)/(2)

Answer: -11/2 as a fraction (or -5.5 as a decimal)

Work Shown

f(-3/4) = (2/3)(-3/4)-5

f(-3/4) = (2*(-3))/(3*4)-5

f(-3/4) = -6/12-5

f(-3/4) = -1/2-5

f(-3/4) = -1/2-10/2

f(-3/4) = (-1-10)/2

f(-3/4) = -11/2

f(-3/4) = -5.5
